The best mountains in winter
A lot of mountain tops can be reached by cable car in winter as well, but not all. The ones that are accessible in winter are the place to be for snow fun and for panoramic views of the wintry Swiss Alps.
If you don’t have a rail pass that includes free mountain rides, you need to buy a ticket. Reservations for mountains are usually not necessary. But in a few cases, it’s possible to secure a seat or priority boarding in advance.
Many mountain tops have a mountain restaurant to enjoy a drink, lunch or dinner. And on some of the Swiss peaks you can even spend the night. This allows you to watch sunset and sunrise in the Alps! Below are the mountain hotels we recommend for a unique alpine experience.
