Hi,

I am planning to take the Bernina Express to Tirano from St Moritz in June 2023. Thereafter, I am planning to take a train from Tirano to Zurich Airport. Stay overnight at a hotel near Zurich Airport as my flight is next day morning. Must I take the same Bernina Express from Tirano to St Moritz and change to a train from St Moritz to Zurich Airport on the same day? If not, how do I travel by train to Zurich Airport as quickly as possible? Is it possible to do the trip - St Moritz to Tirano to Zurich Airport in one day.

This is my itinerary.

Zermatt to St Moritz by The Glacier Express. Stay overnight at St Moritz. Next day morning, St Moritz to Tirano by the Bernina Express. Tirano to Zurich Airport

Hi kokkeed,

Welcome to MySwissAlps.

Your plan is doable but you'd be spending a long time on the train.

Looking at the summer timetable, there is a Bernina Express train leaving St Moritz in the morning at 9.17am. If you take this train, you will arrive in Tirano at around 12.30 noon. The next Bernina Express from Tirano to Chur leaves at 14.12pm. That gives you about 1.5 hour to explore Tirano. From Chur, there are regular trains to Zurich Airport via Zurich HB, which will get you there in 1.5 hour. So you could potentially arrive at the airport at 7.30 pm. Alternatively you can also travel with the regular trains to Chur via Pontresina. Regular trains runs more frequently but you might need to switch trains a few times. You can check train schedules on the SBB timetable: www.myswissalps.com/timetable

If you're travelling on the Bernina Express on both journeys, you need a seat reservation for each trip. You can book your seats onlnie: www.myswissalps.com/berninaexpress/tickets

Anna

Your itinerary is long and very tightly timed.

On option would be to get the first Glacier Express from Zermatt, change at St Moritz and travel to Tirano the same evening, arriving at 19.00. Stay in Tirano, Italy (cheaper than St Moritz), then take the Bernina Express Tirano - Chur the next morning, spend some time in Chur then travel to Zurich

Hi kokkeed,

Yes, the option provided by 1960man is another one that you could choose though if your plans are to visit St.Moritz and stay, then Anna’s suggestion is very adequate.

I include two useful links, one for hotels near Zurich Airport https://www.myswissalps.com/zurichairporthotels and the other for the Glacier Express. https://www.myswissalps.com/glacierexpress

Kind regards,

Yolanda
