Need help ..I am travelling to switzerland for the first time. My stay is for 7 nights and 8 days. I want to cover places like geneva, zermatt, Gruyeres Cheese and chocolate tour, the jungfrau and lugano.
I am planning to stay in lucern for 4 days from here travel to geneva, lugano and gruyeres/montreau and 3 days halt in interlaken/ grindelwald.

I want to enjoy the lake and mountain view, with that prespective I am confused where should I stay ?
Will grindelwald b better or Neidreid near lake Brienz ?
I also want to make sure that travelling from these places is convinient
    Pls advice

Hello gauri28080. As you want to cover some places in the south/southwestern part of Switzerland, I don’t think Lucerne is the most obvious location for this. Please review the timetable to find out about traveling times. A town such as Lausanne or Montreux would make more sense for your visits to Geneva, Zermatt and Gruyères.

The Jungfraujoch and viewing points as Schilthorn, Rigi and Pilatus can be well reached from Lucerne and/or a town in the Bernese Oberland. If you like the lakes, your best location would be Interlaken (right in between lake Thun and lake Brienz). Spiez along lake Thun would be a good option too as a base for trips to the southern part of the country, or Brienz along lake Brienz for trips to Lucerne and the north. You’ll find hotels near the railway stations on the pages I linked to.

By the way, because of your travel plans I’d look into the 8 day Swiss (Saver) Pass if I were you.

    Does that get you started?

    Hello gauri280880,

Train services to Lugano can be found through the timetable I linked to in my previous message. If you’re traveling in high season (Dec – Feb, Jun – Aug), I would recommend to book hotels in advance. On the other hand, most hotels on the pages I provided allow free cancellation until the day of arrival, so you’ll always be sure of a good room regardless of your travel season. Our page about Lugano is a good starting point.

    Hi

Will geneva b a better place to start my trip ?
As advised by u I am planning to stay in a hotel in geneva for 4 days and 3 days in an apartment near lake brienz.
So that I can enjoy both the city as well as the countryside.

Which places are country side of switzerland ?

Hello gauri. Yes, Geneva and Brienz would be obvious choices for your stay!
