Good morning. Have just booked 8 nights in Switzerland in September. Arrive in Zurich, straight to Luzern for 3 night then onto Wengen for 5 nights. I am getting a little confused with train journeys and ticket prices. I think it will be worth buying a STP as we intend taking quite a few train journeys, cable cars and boat trips when in both places. Is this correct? We would love to do a scenic train journey on our way to Wengen from Luzern. Is this possible and which one should we do? Also, how much time should we allow on the last day from Wengen to get to the airport? I haven’t booked flights yet so that would be very helpful.

    Thank you in advance.

Hello tinarina and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

From Luzern to Wengen you should take the Luzern – Interlaken Express Which forms one part of the Golden Pass route (http://www.myswissalps.com/go ldenpass).

Use the timetable on the SBB website (bit.ly/2HH1U7B) or the highly-recommended SBB Mobile app (bit.ly/2ICIUHi) to plan your travel, find fares* and buy tickets if required. If you are not familiar with using the timetable it will pay to first read the instructions on this page – http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable. *SBB website shows half-fare prices by default, mobile app allows you to nominate full or half-fare and is also smart enough to offer you the Saver Day Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/sa verdaypass) if that offers the best fare.

You should read “How to choose the best travel pass” (http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass), download the handy spreadsheet calculator and do the math. The spreadsheet also includes links to all the available passes.

Just go ahead and book the Swiss Travel Pass without any second thoughts. It’s absolutely worth if you are staying for so many days. Whatever math you do, the STP will always work out cheaper.

    Hi tinarina!

Yes, an 8 day Swiss Travel Pass seems to make sense for your plans. And I agree with Ahahharesh that it’s certainly the most convenient solution. You can check all details at myswissalps.com/swisst ravelpass. If you want to make sure which option is most economical, you should indeed c alculate all your plans as advised by Rockoyster.
