Trip report Sept 2018, day 6-Grindelwald & First
-
We woke up to another brilliant weather day, almost too good to believe. So where to go? I had a few wet weather ideas that were never used as after our first full day in Wengen there wasn’t any wet weather.
I hadn’t read anything about First, but it was in an area we hadn’t been to so onto the train to Wilderswil we hopped, and then onto another train to Grindelwald, then on to the three gondolas to First.
Going up in the gondolas was lovely – much nicer than a cable car. We were either on our own or with only another couple of people. We could hear the tinkling of cowbells in the silence and the scenery was so pretty. And then when we arrived at First, the view of the peaks was so close and beautiful.
I have a fear of heights but decided to try to conquer it by walking the Cliff Walk. I was terrified the whole way but so glad I did it in the end. Then there was the walk to Bachalpsee which I stupidly decided to do. I have arthritic feet and had some cortisone injections before this trip. They helped but I really shouldn’t have done the walk as it was quite difficult for me.
It was great to get to the lake and take some photos, but then I had to get back. My feet were very sore that night.
