In September, we’re travelling from Zurich to Zermatt for three days; then from Zermatt to Mürren for 4 days; then back to Zurich for a total of three rail trips. I’m finding conflicting info on the cost of the train fares, but it looks like those point to point tickets are not very expensive. Also, while in Mürren, we would be taking cable cars and funicular trains to different hiking destinations for those days.
I’m thinking it might make sense to get a Swiss Half Fare Card for the trip? It probably doesn’t make sense to also get a Berner Oberland Pass for those days in Mürren?
Appreciate anyone’s thoughts/expertise!

Just to be sure, when you are researching the point-to-point ticket pricing, often on the SBB website it can default to half-price, which can be misleading.
If you are anticipating a lot of travel on the cable cars when you are in Mürren and staying within the area, I would take a look at the Jungfrau Travel Pass. Take a look at our Jungfrau Travel Pass guide in the attached link, you’ll see what is included / discounted:
Or it could be that the Swiss Half Fare Cad is sufficient for all trips. The best way to be sure is to carry out some maths and compare, based on daily activities. We have a downloadable spreadsheet to help you on your way, thereon the best rail pass is presented. Here’s the link:
You may want to consider Saver Day Passes or Supersaver tickets for your trips to Zermatt. Both, if available for your dates of travel can be quite reasonably priced, though Supersaver tickets do come with restrictions. More details on both, including purchase options in the below links:

I think you can’t go wrong with a Swiss Half Fare Card (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/swiss-half-fare-card/). It will also provide discounts on mountain trips near Zermatt, assuming you’re interested in that. And you’ll be able to get regular tickets, as well as the Saver Day Passes and Supersaver tickets mentioned by Yolanda, at half the regular fare too. You’ll already reach the break-even point for a Swiss Half Fare Card once you’d otherwise have to buy CHF 240 worth of regular train tickets, and there is no doubt you will with your journey. An example: just a 2nd class single ticket Zurich-Zermatt is CHF 130.
Whether or not an additional Jungfrau Travel Pass or Berner Oberland Pass (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/berner-oberland-pass/) makes sense, depends on your travel plans in Mürren. The link provided by Yolanda can help you compare your options.
