Hello Suzanne,
The trip is possible and nice, but in what time off the year you are going ?
You go by train from Interlaken Ost to Lauterbrunnen. You change trains in Lauterbrunnen (other site off the platform) and go whit the train through Wengen to Kleine Scheidegg.
After walking (winter or summer ?) you go by train from Kleine Scheidegg to Grindelwald (no change at Grindelwald grund) and change trains to Go back to Interlaken Ost.
You have plenty of time tot do this, you can also visit the nice small village of Wengen and Grindelwald.

Hi Suzanne,
If your trip is during summer months (roughly mid-June to mid-October), a good route is:
Train Interlaken Ost to Wengen via Lauterbrunnen
Gondola from Wengen to Männlichen
Easy and very scenic walk from Männlichen down to Kleine Scheidegg. This will take approximately 1 – 1.5 hour.
Lunch at Kleine Scheidegg then train down to Grindelwald
Train Grindelwald to Interlaken

HI Kim, can this hike be done in winter (December)? Is it safe and is the route clearly marked?

On the site of the Wengen – Männlichen you can see of the walk open or closed is.
In december there is a lot of snow, but the footpath is, when it is open, prepared for walking with good snowshoes.
We walk it in februari 2015, with about 1 meter of snow. But the walk is longer than in the summer, because the route is different in the winter. Walking time in the winter is about 3 hours, in the sommer about 1,5 hours.

Hi VanessaL-
<<” HI Kim, can this hike be done in winter (December)? Is it safe and is the route clearly marked?”>>
The route is clearly marked. Check the link provided by Kim.
Safety depends on ice and snow where the trail goes around Tschuggen, as well as potential for avalanches.
The walk can probably be done in late December, since the trail is groomed in that part of Winter.
That availability happens at about the time when service becomes available on the lifts to Wengen in mid-December.
The problem is that the lifts don’t run during early December (no skiers) except maybe on weekends. Check the timetable to see if you can get up to Männlichen from Wengen or Grindelwald.

Thank you so much to everyone for your help and guidance!!
We are actually going this weekend (left it a bit late I’m realising now!) but the information above has been really helpful in planning our time there.
Thanks again! 🙂

Hi Suzanne,
In mid November the trail may or may not be open and there will be snow. Be sure to check with the tourist office before you go. If you have time for a short trip report once you’re back that would be great.
Have a wonderful trip!
