MySwissAlps.com features ads, commercial and non-commercial Air Glacier – hiking insurance to be rescued

Does anyone have any experience with the company in Switzerland called Air Glacier? I know they provide a yearly membership / insurance to cover the cost of being picked up by helicopter in case of accident. Their main target is Swiss people doing lots of skiing, mountaineering, and the like but does anyone know if they are applicable for tourists coming from the U.S? For instance, if we pay for the membership, would they cover in case of accident during a trek in Switzerland?

I don’t know about Air Glacier.
Rega does helicopter rescue for hikers, skiers, etc. Foreign tourists are able to join, but you need to pay for 12 months. If you do a search on “Rega” in the MySwissAlps forum, you will see what other people have to say about it.

We think we’ve heard of tourists being a member too for Air-Glacier, and their signup form at http://www.air-glaciers.ch/sion/carte -de-sauvetage/inscription allows you to select any country – so it should be fine to do so. You may want to contact them on their website to be sure.
