    Hi Everyone,

I’m in need of some activity advice. We will be in Switzerland for 10 days, July 4 – July 15, arriving in Zurich then taking the train the Lucerne where we’ll be for the duration of our trip before taking the train back to Zurich for our flight back on July 15.

We are outdoorsy people and have found that the forums show a good amount of activity in the Lucerne area: Rigi, Pilatus, Titlis, boat trips in lake Lucerne, etc. But we do want to do day trips to neighboring areas, the trip to Jungfraujoch looked nice! Any suggestions of favorite spots? We are also into outdoor sports; hiking rafting, etc.

One other thing we were looking at are nice swimming areas. Are lake open for public swimming or are there specific lake beaches? I’m sure there will be signs posted, but if there are any places you’ve enjoyed we’d love to hear it!

Thank you very much for any and all advice you can give!

    Heather

    Hi HeatherP,

The Jungfrau region is a good option for outdoor sports. Have a look at some options here: https://www.myswissalp s.com/jungfrauregion/a ctivities

I haven’t swam at any of the local lakes in that region (Lake Lucerne, Lake Thun, Lake Brienz and others like Sarnersee and Lungernersee)but certainly you can. Hopefully another member has direct experience to share with you.

I would have thought the lakes are way too cool in May to have a comfortable swim, but apparently the water at Lake Brienz is 20C at the moment, so doable I guess: http://www.brienzersee.ch/de/ activities/sommer-sport-adventure/baden-badewetter-brienzersee/strandbad-brienz.html

    Have fun!

Heather is travelling in July, so the lake swimming will be fine!

One of my favourite pastimes is swimming in alpine lakes. I’ve been doing it for years in France and Switzerland. I first swam in Lake Geneva aged about 3!

In the last 20 years I’ve swum in Lake Geneva, lac Neuchatel, Sarnersee, Urnersee, Lungernsee, Walensee, Brienzersee, Thunersee, Bodensee, Hallwilersee

There are official and unofficial lakeside beaches and access points on all the Swiss lakes.

There are essentially two types of swimming place, beaches (usually pebbly or large stones at the water’s edge and grass inland), or the other type which can be any form of access point to the water such as a small patch of grass or a concrete wall.

Luzern has its own Lido, but you can swim at Fluelen for example. Some places are better reached by car, but in some areas you can step off a train and be by the lakeside in a few minutes.

One of my favourite little beaches is Isleten on the Urnersee (the southern end of the Vierwaldstattersee):

accesible by boat or post bus

    Hi Heather

I am not a swimmer myself but on our numerous July/August visits to Switzerland – Lake Thun area – we have seen many people swimming in Lake Thun.
