Hi Same and welcome to MySwissAlps!
To know which pass is the best for your specific itinerary you need to plan out all trips you will make (train, bus, boat, cable car) and compare the prices for regular tickets to the rail pass price (and which routes/mountains are free or discounted). Once you have that information you can read our page here on how to choose the best rail pass. There is a spreadsheet there to help with the math. 🙂

Usually people don’t find 1st class worth it, but you might. Have a read about the differences here: https://www.myswissalp s.com/train/practical/ 2nd1stclass
You can travel from Lucerne to Paris, but not directly if that is what you are asking.
Use the Swiss railways timetable to plan out that trip and others: https://www.myswissalp s.com/timetable

Thanks!
Is there a train from Paris to Locerne (Swiss)? How long is the ride? Is it included in the train pass?
Thanks

Paris to Lucerne? Yes, you can travel from just about every town in Europe to another it just depends on how many connections / train changes you must make. 🙂
Use the timetable on my last post to see your options.
Swiss rail passes, like the Swiss Travel Pass only cover within Switzerland so you’ll need to buy a ticket from Paris to the Swiss border (which would be Basel). https://www.myswissalp s.com/traintickets/fra nce

First class or second is the classic conundrum you face when you travel with your family .
The second class in the Swiss Train is quite good ..comprable with first class in most geogrpahies in the world . Most facilities that are available in first are available in second including the luggage spaces . Personally , we have opted to take the first class simply because 1) The seats are a little more comfortable with arms rests 2) Availability of seats better especially during crowded hours 3) Better space to stretch out …comes in handy during long travels particularly on the Intercity and Railjets (best first class seats on the Swiss Rail). 4) But in all the Intercity and the other short trains not much difference
Economics – The first class comes at a 50 pct premium . Best to work out the economics (depending on the number kids under 16 (who can travel free) and the duration of the swiss pass and the composition of the travelling party .
