Hello,
My wife and I will be visiting Switzerland in the first half of September as a part of the Europe tour. We plan to enter Switzerland by train coming in from Venice
Request you to please review and help us answer some questions regarding the same
Day 1 Arrive in Zermatt from Venice by afternoon. Freshen up and spend the rest of the day at Zermatt –What can we do here?
Day 2 Visit Matterhorn in the morning and comeback in the afternoon and travel by train to Interlaken and stay the night there.
Day 3 Visit Jungfraujoch in the morning and then come back and see around Interlarken in the evening -Stay the night at Inetrlarken. – Is this a correct way of planning? or would you suggest we travel to Lucerne this evening itself?
Day 4 Stay at Lucerne – Travel by train to Lucerne in the morning – and spend the day at Lucerne – Mt Pilatus or Mt Rigi?? or something else? what can we plan here?
Day 5 Stay at Lucerne – Go to Mt Titlus in the morning, come back and do some boat rides??
Day 6 Stay at Lucerne – pl suggest?????
Day 7 Stay at Zurich – Lucerne to Zurich by train in the morning ad visit the Zurich city.
Day 8 Catch the flight out of Zurich
Requesting your help for the following:
1. Is the itinerary too tightly packed? Will it be difficult to manage?
2. Is Matterhorn worth visiting in September? If it’s too clouded to visit Matterhorn, what alternate activities can be done/places can be visited?
3. Between Mt Rigi and Mt Pilatus, which one is better place to visit? Also, if the weather is not suitable, what alternate activities/places can be tried? Will we get time in the evening for Lucerne?
4. we wanted to experience the Glacier express – please suggest where and when can we fit that in
If there is anything which is great and we have missed but falls in the same regions which we are planning to visit, please suggest it to us.- Please note that we are FLEXIBLE to change the complete itinerary in terms of enter city and any other – except that we need to depart from Zurich on the last day.
Looking at our itinerary – Which pass should we take? Swiss travel pass or half rate card? – We will be really doing a local travel for 6 days.

- No, the itinerary isn’t too busy. Be sure to use the Swiss railways timetable to plan out trips between towns and mountains: https://www.myswissalp s.com/timetable to make sure it works for you
- You can’t visit the Matterhorn itself. Only mountains nearby to get good views. IE Gornergrat and Klein Matterhorn/Glacier Paradise. You can get excellent views of the Matterhorn at any time of year – you just need a cloudless few hours. September could be great.
- They are both different mountains. One isn’t better than another. Pilatus is higher and has a very popular cogwheel train that takes you up the mountain. Rigi tends to offer more activities when you are at the top – many hikes for example.

It is about an 8 hour trip to get to the end of the line in St. Moritz (quite far from your next planned stop in Interlaken).
