Hello Uvr2002 and Welcome to MySwissAlps,
1. Do you mean distance over the ground or as the crow flies?
2. Why do you ask?

Hello and Thank you for your welcome.and the reply.
1. I meant the actual distance covered.
2. I ask because I am writing a travel story on scenic rail journeys in Switzerland and I am researching the distances travelled.
Thank you.

Hi Uvr2002
You might find some useful details on the Swiss railways website here: https://company.sbb.ch /en/the-company/profil/facts-and-figures.html
I haven’t seen the mileage stated online before but I’m sure an email to SBB will get you the answer if the above link doesn’t have it. Bottom of page here: https://www.sbb.ch/en/ home.html

There is a sort of maître d’train on board the GPEX. I’m sure he will know all the facts. Or see attached. 🤓

Yes there was. Unfortunately, I didn’t ask him. Now I am back home and trying to find out.
Thank you for the link. I will check it out.

Hi Uvr2002,
You’ll find a detailed map on http://www.myswissalps.com/go tthardpanoramaexpress. It does not list distances but I got the below from the file with the coordinates. Should be pretty close to reality. The boat section length depends on the actual stops along the way, it does not take that into account.
- Lucerne – Flüelen (boat): 36.6 km
- Flüelen – Gotthard: 48.5 km
- Gotthard – Bellinzona: 69.2 km
- Bellinzona – Lugano: 27.9 km
Good luck with the story writing!

182 versus 182.2. My figure was rounded down to the nearest kilometer for ease of absorption. 😇
