    Hello friends ,

this is our 9 day trip travel video squeezed in 6 minutes

    youtu.be/b_pPsJ7_Tso

I just wanted to share my experience of my self guided trip along with my wife and 3 year old daughter. It wouldn’t have been possible without the inspiration and feedback from this website & forum to travel without a guide / pre arranged tour Agencies.

prior to even travelling, many of my close friends were asking ” why 9 days at Switzerland? You’re gonna regret and get bored after 3 days. Club travelling to Italy and france within 9 days” they said. But i had other plans based on the inputs from you guys. I knew 15 days weren’t going to be enough to get bedazzled by the beauty of the country. But budget is also a concern so i thought 9 days would be balanced for me so that it wouldn’t be too hard on my pocket when i returned home. And guess what, all trip expense was on target.

We used the swiss travel pass 1st class for 8 days and it was the best thing to invest for a stress free holiday and the advantage it offered us. Hopping on to trains , buses was convenient, boats top deck for the best views was just exceptional. To add to the convenience was the SBB mobile app. There were days we missed the early morning train planned but were assured by the app on the next train in 30 minutes or so and at which platform. I cannot express enough to tell how easy it is to travel in Switzerland to any destination and combine boat and trains.

    this was our itinerary:

Day 1 : Reach Bern and walk around town

Day 2 : Day trip from Bern to Vevey town and Le Bouveret swiss vapeur parc

Day 3: Day trip from Bern to Lucerne and the Golden Round trip to Mt. Pilatus, Tobbagan run at Frakigaudi

Day 4: Day trip from Bern to Thun , Speiz Castle with boat trip on Lake Thunersee, and Boat trip to St.Beatus Holen Swiss caves from Speiz

Day 5: shifted from hotel at Bern to hotel at Grindelwald, visited Grindelwald First and Tissot’s First Cliff walk.

Day 6: Day trip from Grindelwald to Mannlichen from Grund and spent the afternoon at Wengen

Day 7: Day trip from Grindelwald to Schilthorn via Murren & Stechelberg. Spent the afternoon at Gimmelwald and Lauterbrunnen

Day 8: Day trip to Jungfraujoch from Grindelwald

Day 9: checked out from Hotel and travelled to Zurich. We stored our luggage at Zurich HB main Station at SBB lockers and walked through town and also visited Zurich zoo. Our flight back to Muscat was at 10pm

On a lighter note, some of my friends (same one as stated above) are asking me for advice on how to travel. 😉

Do let me know if you any further info. I would be more than happy to share to the best of my knowledge. After all i think this is the way i could give back to this wonderful group of people contributing to this website.

Hi Gejothomas and welcome to MySwissAlps and thanks for the report!

I agree 9 days is a nice amount – 15 even better! I can’t imagine trying to see 3 countries in 9 days as your friends suggested! Yikes!

Sounds like a great trip for you and the family thanks for the video – really nice!

    Hi Gejothomas

Thank you for your report. I enjoyed your video very much.

You managed a good variety of activities and scenery during your holiday and seem to have had a really good time, judging by the happy smiles and your little one’s excitement! She certainly seems to have loved the snow!

Thanks Maggie. I must say your observation was correct regarding the diversity (City, countryside, lakes, mountains, caves). That was the plan developed over 6 months by going through the inputs from the contribution of this website.

Yes, my little daughter was thrilled and so were we!

    Cheers

    Hi Gejothomas,

Awesome video and wonderful trip that was perfectly scripted and planned no doubt! Congratulations.

Was wondering if you can add the Rail pass details with your daily itineraries above as well i.e. where did the rail pass work and where did it gave you discounted tickets (and how much) i.e. cable cars, lifts, boats, to jungfrou joch etc.

    Many thanks in advance.

    BR,

    Hammad

    Hi Lucas,

Thanks a lot for directing me to the page.

A quick one if you dont mind. I understand that the Children 6-16 travel free (with parent) on The Half Fare Card . Do they travel free on the following route as well (especially the last leg klein scheidegg to jungfrau)?

    Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe

Train from Interlaken, Grindelwald, Wengen or any other town to Jungfraujoch: 50% off

    Thanks

If the parent has either a Swiss Half Fare Card or Swiss Travel Pass then you can add-on the free Swiss Family Card which allows children 6-15 to travel free with their parents wherever you go with the adult card/pass.

Read more on our Swiss rail pass page on those 3 passes: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw issrailpasses
