Hello and thanks in adavance for any help you can give me.
In June and July I will be traveling with my wife and 5 children (ages at time of travel will be 5, 7, 9, 11, 13) to Europe. We plan to buy a 5 days in 1 month select pass to visit Benelux, France, Germany, and Switzerland.
My understanding is that the Eurail pass will allow for travel on only certain railways in Switzerland. However we plan to visit Jungfraujoch, Zermatt, and other activities involving cable car rides and museums. I see on this site that there is a Swiss Family Pass that would save us a lot of money but may require for my wife and I to buy a Swiss rail pass. So I am wondering if I should not include Switzerland in our Eurail pass and instead do a 3 country pass and buy a Swiss Rail Pass separately? If you were in my situation what would you do?

To take advantage of the Swiss Family Card for the kids you’d need to look at either the Swiss Travel Pass or Swiss Half Fare Card.
I would expect that the Swiss Travel Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass) and Swiss Family Card (http://www.myswissalps.com/sw issfamilycard) would indeed be the most economical option for your large family. Thank you so much Lucas for your help. The links you provided gave me a lot of good information. Here is what I am thinking to do now:
I’ll purchase the 4 country Eurail pass since the difference between it and the 3 country pass is only about $100 for the entire family and covers a pretty good amount of the travel within Switzerland we plan to do. Then I will purchase 2 of the half fare passes which will allow us to obtain the family pass, about $240 total for our family. The $240 will pay for itself on our trip to Jungfraujoch alone. According to this site (shop.switzerlandtravel centre.com/?affiliateId=23¤c y=CHF#/en/product/excu rsionJungfrau) the 7 of us would travel Wengen-Jungfraujoch-Wengen without these passes for about $800 and only about $176 with the passes. Then we will have the passes for other discounts during our time in Switzerland.
