Will the SDP get me from St Moritz to Andermatt (local train not Glacial Express) or will I need additional tickets?

Hi Hontas and welcome to MySwissAlps!
The Glacier Express covers the route between Zermatt and St Moritz (including Andermatt of course, see more about the route here) http://www.myswissalps.com/gl acierexpress/gettingth ere
which is free with the Saver Day Pass as you can see here http://www.myswissalps.com/sa verdaypass/validity
So you can actually take the Glacier Express (the only direct train) if you have that pass. Of course you can also take local trains if you prefer but not sure why you would do that if it’s fully covered in your pass.
Hope that helps!
Maria.

If you plan to travel on the actual Glacier Express then you will need to pay for seat reservations as well as having a Saver Day Pass. You can make reservations up to 3 months from your travel date at shop.glacierexpress.ch /gex_en/specials/daytr ips/glacier-express. Regular avoid the detour into Chur and don’t require reservations – that’s a the expense of changing trains a couple of times. What will you do once you get to Andermatt?
Use the timetable on the SBB website (bit.ly/2HH1U7B) or the highly-recommended SBB Mobile app (bit.ly/2ICIUHi) to plan your travel and buy tickets if required. If you are not familiar with using the timetable it will pay to first read the instructions on this page – http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable.

Is there a bit missing?
We want to use the local train not the Glacial express – for the experience. We plan to go from St Moritz to Andermatt, has e a leisurely lunch and then get the train back to St Moritz (we like trains! And the scenery is reportedly stunning).

ArnoModerator15485 posts9 May 2019 at 17:38:27 #911975Hi Hontas,
If you zoom into the Glacier Express route map at http://www.myswissalps.com/gl acierexpress/gettingth ere, you’ll see that Glacier Express trains go to Chur and then back on the same stretch for a bit, until Reichenau-Tamins. This is not a very scenic leg, so you can also decide to skip that part.
rockoysterParticipant8889 posts11 May 2019 at 6:36:40 #911976“Regular avoid the detour into Chur and don’t require reservations . . .” should have said “Regular trains avoid the unnecessary detour, which the Glacier Express takes, into Chur and don’t require reservations . . . “

Can I ask you 2 more things please?
1. What is the dotted red line on the train map? Does the SDP apply on that part of the line?
2 Can we use a SDP all the way from St Moritz to Geneva – planning to buy another SDP, another day. Geneva is our final destination before we come home.
ArnoModerator15485 posts11 May 2019 at 15:07:11 #911978Hi Hontas,
The second link in Maria’s post allows you to download the map of the Saver Day Pass. Dashed lines are free, as well as the solid lines (see the legend).
