Hi! We will be changing trains in both Chur and Buchs on Christmas day mid-afternoon. Does anyone know which station is bigger and will have more offerings for lunch or snacks on Christmas day?

Also, is a seven minute connection time at either station sufficient? I assume both stations are relatively small.

    Thank you,
    Joni

Chur and Buchs are both medium sized stations. I doubt either will have huge numbers of eating places open on Christmas Day afternoon.

7 minutes is probably the official minimum connecting time (MCT) at both stations and it will be no problem. 7 minutes to change platforms at a station is longer than it may sound (it takes on average 3 minutes to change platforms at a medium sized Swiss station)

    Hello Jwiles1449,

Thanks for your questions! Chur and Buchs are both relatively around mid-sized. There is not a lot that is open during Christmas day. From my experience, if you see “Coop Pronto and Brezelkonig,” they are open on holidays. You will often find one in every train station. Coop Pronto is a small grocery store that carries: sandwiches, bread, drinks, alcohol, cigarettes, and some groceries. Brezelkonig is a pretzel place that has drinks and pretzel sandwiches. However, Coop Pronto will have wider selection for you.

You will have plenty of time to transfer between the two trains. Just organize yourself when you are one stop away and that will be help a great deal!

    Best of luck,

    Suzanne

The Co-Op Pronto in Chur station is in the main subway – it is open 10.00 – 18.00 on 25 December

The main ‘open all hours’ shops in railways stations in Switzerland are:

    full grocery shops:

    Coop Pronto

    Migrolino

    Avec

Plus at nearly all stations except local stops:

Kiosk (newpapers, booklets, chocolate, souvenirs etc)

I don’t know where you are coming from or where you are headed but I would be keen to get there rather than waiting for a later connection in either of those places. Take something with you to eat and drink on the train or use the bistro on the train if there is one.

    Hello Jwiles1449,

To help you get an idea of the two railway stations you mention, please see below link, offering quite some input about each station in Switzerland.
