Hi! Need advice as to what’s the best tickets/travel card to purchase for our upcoming trip in June. We’re a family of four with 5yo and 1 yo. Since we have the two little kids, we’re mainly sightseeing and hope to do short hikes, little to no elevations.

We will be coming from Milan to Zermatt (3days, nights) then to Interlaken (7 days, 6 nights). We’re thinking of maybe renting a car for 2 days to explore further like Blausee National Park.

Some of the activities we plan:

Zermatt- Gornegrat Train/Matterhorn/Lake Riffe, Glacier Paradise and Rothorn

Interlaken- Harder Kulm, Lauterbrunnen, Junfrouch, Grindelwald First.

    Any tips are greatly appreciated!

    Faye

    Hello Faye,

Many members of our forum find it useful to carry out some maths via our “how to choose a rail pass” link. That way, they can be sure based on their travel plans, the best rail pass is displayed. Here’s the link: https://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass

Just a heads up, your two little ones, as they are under 6 years, they would travel for free.

With your plans above, at a glance, I would suggest, either one of the regional passes or even the Swiss Travel Pass (this one covers travel throughout Switzerland). More information here:

The Blausee is actually reachable by public transport too (so a car is not actually necessary). You can use the timetable link to gauge routes and journey times. https://www.myswissalps.com/timetable

I hope this helps, feel free to reach out with any further questions.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda

    Thanks Yolanda!

I tried purchasing tickets from Zermatt to Interlaken but gave me an error srating my trip is far in advance. How far in advance can/should I purchase my tickets?

    Thanks!

    Hello again Faye,

It’s typically 60 days in advance, that you can buy point to point tickets. It’s very personal when you choose to buy your tickets, some like to buy everything early, so the to-do list becomes smaller 😉 or closer to the date is Ok too, if you think plans could change. Just a heads up, if you opt with a point to point ticket for Zermatt – Interlaken and you choose a Supersaver ticket, these are fixed and non refundable and travel is only allowed for that specific date and time.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda
