Find your hotel in Geneva
Getting to and from your Geneva hotel
Many hotels in Geneva are situated at walking distance from the main rail station (also called “Cornavin”). They’re close to the attractions in and around the town center as well. You may want to review the hotels near the airport too.
The hotels provide a free Geneva Transport Card, allowing you to use local public transport for free.

Where to stay in Geneva
Centrally located: between the rail station and northern lake shore
A hotel just south-east of Geneva’s main station is ideal. You can walk to both the station as well as to the boat docks Genève-Mt-Blanc and Genève Paquis. This is where most hotels in Geneva can be found.
Some of the main streets are:
- Rue de Lausanne
- Rue des Alpes
- Rue de Chantepoulet / Rue du Mont-Blanc
Directly on the lake
There are several hotels on the boulevards north of the lake and the river Rhone. Look for these streets if you want a room with lake or river views:
- Quai des Bergues
- Quai du Mont-Blanc
Geneva’s main station is within walking distance of both streets.
In the old town
The old town of Geneva is located south of the lake and the river Rhône. If you spend the night here, you’ll be right between the charming old streets.
Getting to the rail station takes 15-20 minutes on foot, and 12-17 minutes by bus/tram.
Quieter alternatives to Geneva
If you prefer a hotel in a smaller town just outside of Geneva, you can consider booking one in nearby Divonne Les Bains (in France) or other Swiss towns on western Lake Geneva. My pick would be Nyon: a beautiful medieval town on the lake, at just a 15-minute train ride from Geneva.
In my Lake Geneva region guide, you’ll find tips for other attractive towns near the city.
