Where to stay in Grindelwald

The train stations of Grindelwald

Many hotels are within walking distance from the main rail station of Grindelwald. This is the best starting point for trips into the mountains, including a visit to the Jungfraujoch and Männlichen.

Grindelwald has two more rail stations, called “Grindelwald Terminal” and “Grindelwald Grund”, but they’re outside of the center and there aren’t many hotels near these stations.

Mind the hills

Grindelwald is hilly. If your hotel is somewhere along the streets “Dorfstrasse” or “Spillstattstrasse”, the altitude difference during your walk to the station is mostly insignificant.

Hotels farther away from these streets could be up to 100 m up or down the hill. There are buses and taxis to get to your hotel.

Many hotels in Grindelwald can be found on its main street, between the train station and the valley station of the gondolas to First.

The eastern part of the town

Grindelwald is quite small, so even if you stay in the eastern outskirts you can quickly reach the main station by bus. A hotel located here is close to the valley stations of Grindelwald-First and Pfingstegg.

Getting the best Eiger views

Book a south-west facing room, preferably with a balcony and on one of the top floors, for views of the Eiger North Face. The eastern part of town is less densely built, so you’ll generally have a wider look there.

You can also look for accommodation on the hills north of the village: along the “Terrassenweg” and the smaller streets between the Terrassenweg and the Dorfstrasse. The extra elevation enhances your chances of wide views as well.

Free transport in Grindelwald

The hotels provide a free Guest Card when you check-in. It provides discounts on local trips. But with a rail pass, you’ll usually get a better discount in a much larger area.
