The end of Eurail passes
From 9 September 2026, Eurail train passes are no longer available. Instead, you can buy Interrail passes.
Eurail and Interrail passes were offered alongside for years. Interrail was for travelers from Europe, and Eurail for everyone else. But, both passes were exactly the same. Now, there’s Interrail for everyone.
What’s changing?
If you have already purchased a Eurail pass, it will remain valid and nothing changes.
If you still have to buy, only Interrail passes are available. They offer exactly the same coverage as Eurail did. That applies to both free routes and discounted routes.
If you used to buy an Eurail Global Pass, you’d now need an Interrail Global Pass.
Interrail Switzerland Pass
There never was a Eurail Switzerland Pass. You may wonder if the Interrail Switzerland Pass is now available for travelers not living in Europe. It is not. It remains available to European travelers only.
The Interrail Switzerland Pass is cheaper than the Swiss Travel Pass. But, it covers less: fewer boats, fewer mountains, an no urban transport in the cities. For most trips, the Swiss Travel Pass remains your best option, and it’s available for everyone.
