    Hi Peter,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

There is no need to link the Swiss Travel Pass to the SBB App.

When you purchase the Swiss Travel Pass online, you will receive it as an e-ticket or in PDF format. You can save this to your smartphone. During ticket inspection, just show this ticket directly from your smartphone. We do recommend printing out the Swiss Travel Pass as a back up, just in case your phone runs out of battery and you can’t access the digital tickets.

You can find further info on how to use the Swiss Travel Pass here: https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/swiss-travel-pass/ (scroll down to How does the STP work).

    Regards,
    Anna

    Hi Anna,

I couldn’t find where to write and ask you my question on the forum, so I am writing it here instead.

I am planning a train trip from Zurich to Maienfeld (Heidiland) and will be using a Swiss Half Fare Card. If I buy a standard ticket, how long is it valid for? Am I allowed to hop off the train at an intermediate station to explore the area, and then catch a later train on the same day using the same ticket?

    Thank you!

P.S. I would also be very happy if you could guide me on how to post on the forum.

    Regards
    Bita

    Hi Bita,

Welcome to MySwissAlps! Once you’re logged into the website, please go to the main forum page https://www.myswissalps.com/community/forum/questions/ and click the button “Post a new thread” at the top.

Your ticket will be valid for the entire day, and you can get off and back on the train wherever and whenever you want. Have fun!

Hi, Peter!  To expand on Anna’s reply, in spite of the claims on the SBB website my yearly travel experiences have been that non residents of Switzerland have not been able link their Swiss Travel Pass to the SBB app for the past few years.  (I even have an account/password with the SBB I set up almost two decades ago and it would no longer allow me to store my pass on the app as I’m from the US.)

This ability has been sporadic but I traveled there in May of this year and once again I was able to store the pass QR code in my Apple wallet on my iPhone making it much handier to access electronically.  If you have an Android, store the code in your photos or files.  Do keep a photo copy of the original full ticket as that, not just the QR code, has the proof of purchase needed for free museum entry.  And, like Anna suggests print out a paper copy to keep with your other papers just in case, but the QR code was all I needed for the train (and occasionally needed to show my passport) and the photo of the original ticket eventually got me into desired museums (museum personnel sometimes are not so familiar with the pass and you have to show them all of this).
