Hi all, we will be in Switzerland for 6 weeks ( 2 adults 2 kids under 16) and I’m trying to figure out the train passes.

First 4days we will be at st mortiz and will have the Upper Engadin guest transportation card.  But I’m thinking to get the saver pass to travel from Zurich airport to St, mortiz and to Italy for the Berina Express scenic route via regional trains.

    * my question is that should I get the kids Junior Cards for that or buy them the saver day pass instead? For that particular day… If they have no cards at all, can they travel free just with our 2 adult saver day passes?

then the next  9 days we will be at Saas Fee and will have the guest cards as well. But we will have to buy the saver day pass again to travel from our st mortiz hotel to Saas ?  We will then move from Saas Fee to a town close to Interlaken ( our 3rd base, for a month) , with the interlaken  guest card ( which doesn’t give too much benefits) , but I think we will buy the half fare card for the last 30 days of our stay…. also the Berner Oberland Pass for 12 days when we are in the BO area…

does the plan look ok for you all about the travel passes and that it is the most economical way? My question is about the kids…. If I should get them the junior card for the first two weeks or not, because we will also be getting the half fare card, so there will be an over lap….   Thanks for all your input.

any suggestions on how to see the best views and hiking WITH the interlaken guest card alone? (I know it doesn’t come with transportation to the mountains, ) so, any suggestions on Bus hopping or train hopping /  Most scenic stops that the interlaken guest card brings?and if it goes up to Beatensburg?  (As we don’t want to to pay extra for the travel passes for the 2 week gap )

    thanks so much in advance.

    Hi Starsnow,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

I recommend buying the Swiss Half Fare Card (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/swiss-half-fare-card/) that is valid for 1 month and request for a complimentary Swiss Family Card that allow children 5 to 15 years old to travel along for free.

For the first or remaining 2 weeks, depending on how often you will be travelling, you could either get the Junior Card for each child or purchase the Children Saver Day Pass every time you travel, The Children Day Pass costs CHF19.

You can find further info about discounts for railpasses here: https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/tickets/discount/

    Regards,
    Ann
