Australians: Beware of raileurope.com.au $ charges
A traveler shares their experience with purchasing tickets from Rail Europe Australia and warns others about hidden foreign transaction fees. They found that even when charged in AUD, payments were treated as international transactions by Australian banks, leading to extra charges. They advise future buyers to use credit cards without foreign transaction fees to avoid surprises.
- Use credit or debit cards that don't charge foreign transaction fees when purchasing from Rail Europe Australia.
- Consider using PayPal for orders as it may help avoid additional fees; charges will convert to AUD without extra costs.
- Be cautious with websites that are not Australian, like Happyrail, as they will always be treated as international transactions regardless of currency selection.
- Always double-check to see if the current price in AUD matches what you see online to avoid unexpected costs.

This probably apply to Australian only, I just want to share what I learnt !!
http://www.raileurope.com.au which carry an australian domain name, showing they charge AUD but when they actually charge, they are charging from an overseas company, not australian company, as a result, most Australia credit card will treat that as a foreign transaction and charge (normally 3% or more) disregard raileurope.com.au indeed charge the AUD amount quoted.
If you want to purchase tickets from raileurope.com.au, disregard it quote in AUD and charge in AUD, remember to use those credit/debit cards that do not attract foreign transaction fee. I suspect this will be the case for happyrail.com as well which I cant confirm.
I already notified raileurope.com.au to remind customer their AUD quote might attract foreign transaction fee when using an AU credit/debit card.
Hope this help 🙂
