Hi, we are a family of 4 wanting to travel by train from Basel airport to Zurich HB on a Sunday evening and back, 4 days later, on a Wednesday evening. I can see that a 4 day Swiss Pass for myself&partner might be an option (&kids travel free with us) but can’t verify that there are train services on this route(&in evening) that are free with Swiss Pass. Any help gratefully received. Thank you.

Just to clarify: there is no train to Basel Airport (aka Euroairport). It is served by a local Basel city bus (route 50) that runs to/from outside Basel SBB main station. There are many trains Basel SBB – Zurich HB via two routes. The fastest are non stop and take around 1 hour.

Yes, I would buy both at the same time on the SBB website or app. You do not need to buy separately, just look for Zurich HB – Basel Airport in the timetable. The listed routes you will see will be the whole trip, including the train and the bus part.

Learn more about the timetable at http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable.

Iidiko, I have a follow up question, do you need to book a reservation for the airport bus and train if you are using your Swiss Travel Pass?

Reservations are not necessary on inter city trains in Switzerland, especially on the frequent main trunk routes like Basel – Zurich.

The number 50 bus Basel SBB – Basel airport is a normal urban city bus, so if you are travelling with a valid Swiss Travel Pass you just get on and go.
