We will be flying into basil and my husband wants to go to a auto museum that is just outside of colmar. I will not have my STP pass activated at that time and when I was trying to figure out how to get there it showed using the TER with France for a direct route. sBB gave a very long option. Just wondering if I’m not searching correctly. If you can help me I would appreciate it thank you

    Hello Stubby

    Welcome to MySwissAlps

I have just looked at the Swiss electronic timetable (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/public-transport/timetable/).    There is a very good French TER service (Train Express Regional) which runs Basel-Mulhouse-Colmar-Selestat-Strasbourg.  This excellent service, which runs at speeds of up to 200 kilometres per hour (125 miles per hour) runs every 30 minutes on Mondays to Fridays, and every hour at weekends and on holidays.   The journey takes just 43 minutes.  The fares look reasonably priced.

There are also a few slower trains, which involve a change at Mulhouse.

Incidentally Colmar itself is a very attractive historic city showing the mix of French and German features which is characteristic of the Alsace region.  While your husband is looking at cars, you could be looking around the city.

    Kind regards
    Roger

    Hi Stubby,

I hope Roger’s helpful reply has clarified. I agree, Colmar is lovely. Out of interest, would you mind sharing the long option you found with your initial research with SBB?

Should you need some online purchase options for your Basel-Colmar ticket.  You can find some in the link below. Scroll to ‘Where to buy your tickets for France – Switzerland – best options’.

    Kind regards,

Thank you Roger and Yolanda.  The museum is the National Automobile Museum in Mulhouse.   But def on the way to Colmar.   I am not sure what I must have looked at on sbb as I went to recheck to give my info and I was shown the TER options that were direct or one stop at Mulhouse.

    Thank you your help.
