    Hello Everyone!

We’re planning a trip to Switzerland and stopping by Montreux for 1 night. Just wanted some travel advice and recommendation what to do in Montreux.

We’re planning to visit Chillon Castle. I know that there are many routes options, but the boat intrigues me. Is the boat ride from Vevey worth it in terms of is it scenic/beautiful where we can take photos while on board? Is it also covered by the Swiss Travel Pass?

Thank you in advance for the advice!

    Hi Stefhaniejon,

it is around an hour by boat from Vevey-Marché (lac) to Château-de-Chillon (lac) and I think it does worth it, it will be beautiful. Yes, you can use your Swiss Travel Pass on a normal (without events or lunch etc.) boat trip. Here you’ll find the vaidity map of the Swiss Travel Pass: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/validity

Also note, that you can visit the castle with your Swiss Travel Pass for free.

From the castle then you can take a train/bus to go back to Montreux or you can also walk.

    I hope this helps,

    Ildiko

Yes, the boat trip from Vevey to Chillon would be very pleasant. The journey just from Montreux to Chillon is too short, so your best bet would be a quick hop by train to Vevey, walk down to the lake, boat Vevey – Montreux – Chillon, walk or trolleybus Chillon – Montreux. You could go a bit further towards Lausanne and board a boat at Rivaz (where the Lavaux vineyards are) , where the railway station and boat pier are much closer to each other than they are at Vevey , but then you would have to change boats (not difficult) at Vevey. If doing the latter you would be able to sample two different paddle steamers
