Uk to Switzerland, which power adapter do we need?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is heading to Arosa next week from England and is unsure if they need special power adapters for their devices. They have standard European plugs but are confused by conflicting information about what’s required in Switzerland. They're looking for clear advice on this issue.

Key takeaways:
  • You will need a 'type J' plug adapter for Switzerland, which is hexagonal and won't work with standard European 2-pin plugs.
  • Consider buying a multiple adapter that includes the 'type J' for compatibility across countries.
  • You can easily find adapters at shops like Boots, especially in airports or outdoor stores.

    Hi

I’ve been googling but so confused! Hope you can help. We are staying in Arosa next week and are from England. Do we need to bring special power adapters with us? We have the normal European ones but I seem to be reading that we need something different.

    Many thanks

The Swiss now almost exclusively use what is known as a ‘type J’ plug. It is hexagonal and the socket is recessed so old fashioned ordinary European 2 pin will not work

You need an up to date multiple adapter for all countries (these include the Swiss ‘J’) or a UK- Swiss only

Boots (especially at airports) and outdoor shops do them
