My wife and I are headed back to Switzerland in 3 weeks, and this time we’re going to leave Lucerne for a quick overnight trip to Lugano, including a very short afternoon trip to Como. We have been to Lugano and Locarno for day trips on some of our previous Swiss trips, but this is the first time we’ll have almost two full days and one night there. We were planning on taking the boat from Lugano to Gandria and again eating at Ristorante Rocco Bella overlooking the lake, but it seems that restaurant is now “permanently closed.” Darn it. The only other place we’ve eaten in Lugano hardly counts, since it was the an outdoor terrace of the Flamel Bistro of the Luganodante hotel, where we had a few well deserved beers and small bowls of nuts and pitted green olives after completing the Olive Walk.

I’m sure there are many wonderful places to eat in Lugano, what are some of your favorites?

    Hi CabinJon,

For pizzas and traditional Ticinese meals, go to La Tinera! The setting is unique – it’s located in the basement/cellar of an old apartment building, not far from the main square in Lugano old town.
