Is my Swiss Travel Pass valid with a short version of my first name?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Ivy is concerned about using her Swiss Travel Pass after only listing her nickname 'Ivy' instead of her full name 'Mei Ling Ivy Leung' when she purchased it. She seeks reassurance that this won't cause any issues while traveling in Switzerland.

Key takeaways:
  • You should be fine using your nickname on the Swiss Travel Pass, as it's common for names to be abbreviated.
  • Contact the webshop where you bought the Swiss Travel Pass for complete peace of mind.
  • Any national identity card that matches your short name on the pass can also serve for verification with ticket inspectors.

    Hello,

My full name on the passport is ‘Mei Ling Ivy Leung’, ‘Leung’ being the surname.  However, when I made the purchase, I only put down ‘Ivy’ as the first name.

ie. passport: Mei Ling Ivy Leung
    STP: Ivy Leung

Would I still be able to use the pass?  Thank you.

Hi ivy_chow, and welcome to MySwissAlps!

I wouldn’t expect this to be a problem, with your nickname being on your Swiss Travel Pass and the full version of your first name in your passport. Sometimes, long names that don’t entirely fit get cut off on a Swiss Travel Pass, and that’s no problem either.

If you want to be 100% sure, you could contact the webshop you bought your Swiss Travel Pass from (https://www.myswissalps.com/details/buy-swiss-travel-pass/).

    I hope this helps!

    Hi Ivy,
We’ve used Swiss Travel Passes many times and never used our middle names as shown on our passports.
We’ve never had a problem with it.
Have a happy holiday in Switzerland.

    Hello Ivy_Chow,
Any national identity card will suffice for verification by the ticket inspectors provided it indicates the period of validity apart from the other personal details. I have found this to be true in practice because my national identity card has always been accepted in lieu of my passport. This means that if you have any identity document (other than your passport) with your short name spelt exactly as in the STP it should also suffice for your purpose. I have found the Swiss Ticket Inspectors to be friendly & accommodating, and you should not face any problem.

    Wish you an enjoyable holiday.

    Regards
    Subrata
