Hi! We are going back to the Jungfrau region this May! So excited. We previously visited in October 2023, for 2.5 days. This time we will be there for a week!

last time, we had cheese fondue at Barry’s restaurant in Grindelwald and I’m sorry to say but it was terrible. It tasted ONYL of garlic and alcohol, pure alcohol. No cheese flavor at all. It was painful to get through to say the least. They asked us alcoholic or no alcohol, I wish I knew to say no but I thought we should try it the classic way but no.

We want to try fondue again but we are not sure where we should go. Has anyone had a great experience? We love cheese, but I guess would want a place that could omit the alcohol or a restaurant that only uses white wine and no kirsch?

thanks!! We are staying in Grindelwald but willing to go anywhere in the region for dinner!

On my trip in September 2024, I enjoyed the fondue at the restaurant on Harder Kulm. It was crowded but was lucky to get a table without a reservation, although not sure if you can make a reservation. Nice view over Interlaken and the lakes and if the weather is nice, there is outdoor seating.

If you want a unique and delicious fondue experience the Braunbär Hotel in Wengen has a gondola fondue that we really enjoyed:

I did not notice any taste of alcohol in the fondue, so thinking that you would like it too! It was very cozy in the gondola and we had a nice view of the  mountains.

    Hi ElleandGoose,

The Restaurant Fondue-Stubli at the Schweizerhof Hotel in Grindelwald comes well recommended. Please call them before you book a table. Fondue is usually served in winter or autumn so it might or might not be available in May.
