Direct train service from Frankfurt Airport to Zurich in June?

Short summary – read this first

Wendell is planning a trip from Frankfurt International Airport to Zurich on June 1 after arriving from the US. He needs to know which train station to use at the airport and whether there are direct trains to Zurich or if he will need to change trains.

Key takeaways:
  • Use the Fernbahnhof (long-distance railway station) at Frankfurt Airport for trains.
  • There are no direct trains from Frankfurt Airport to Zurich; you'll need to change at Basel.
  • Be aware that from July to December, trackwork may affect train services between Frankfurt and Zurich, leading to longer journeys and more transfers.

A little bit out of Switzerland, but I’m trying to get from the Frankfurt international airport to Zurich. Trying to confirm which train station at the airport I need to use. And, are there trains that run direct (non-stop) from the airport to Zurich. Or, will I have to change trains somewhere, either in Frankfort main station or some other city?

This will be for travel on June 1 after arrival from US. Thanks for any help you may provide?

Hi Wendell, and welcome back to MySwissAlps!

At Frankfurt Airport, you need to use the Fernbahnhof (long-distance railway station). It will be well signposted.

There are no trains that run direct from Frankfurt Airport to Zürich, but there are direct connections to Basel at 7:51, then every 2 hours until 19:51. At Basel, you would change for Zürich.

If the timing of those services didn’t suit, there are other options with one transfer in Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof (main station) or Mannheim.

You can plan this trip using the Deutsche Bahn website:

    Hope this helps!

For folks traveling by train from Frankfurt to Zurich later in the year, I’ve learned there will be major trackwork on the Frankfurt-Basel main line from July to December which will affect the Frankfurt to Zurich route, resulting in a much longer ride and more transfers as the train routes around the trackwork.
