“Golden Age of Travel” hotels in St. Moritz
A traveler is planning a day trip to St. Moritz and wants advice on which classic hotels from the Golden Age of Travel have the best public spaces and historic atmosphere. They are looking for recommendations for worthwhile experiences and possibly more affordable options, as they can't afford to stay overnight.
- Consider visiting Badrutt’s Palace Hotel, Kulm Hotel, and Suvretta House for a romantic and historical atmosphere.
- For a more budget-friendly option, try Hotel Waldhaus am See, which offers a lovely dining room with a lake view.

There seem to be several classic hotels in St. Mortiz from the so-called Golden Age of Travel: The Kulm Hotel (1856), Badrutt’s Palace Hotel (1896), Suvretta House (1912), and the Carlton Hotel St. Moritz (1913). For daytrip visiting AND NOT staying overnight (can’t afford that!!), any thoughts on which ones have the best public spaces and historic preservation/atmosphere? Even a cursory glance at the prices in the bars and restaurants leaves my head spinning, so I want to make sure that IF we splurge, we’ve picked someplace that is worthy and not just another high-end tourist gouge. And while I doubt it, any insider tips for one of the hotels’ spaces that aren’t astronomical? A lesser-known cafe, bar, or space tucked away perhaps?
