    Dear all,

We are planning to travel from Zweisimmen to Montreux on the GoldenPass Panoramic, as we could not get reservations on the GoldenPass Express from Interlaken Ost to Montreux. To catch the GoldenPass Panoramic departing Zweisimmen at 10:04 AM, we would need to leave Wengen at 6:43 AM and travel via Lauterbrunnen, Interlaken Ost, Spiez, and Zweisimmen. It reaches Zweisimmen at 9:20 AM and if we start from Wengen at 7:13 AM, it would reach Zweisimmen at 9:59 AM, just a few minutes before the departure of GoldenPass Panoramic.

Would starting at 6:43 AM from Wengen be a reasonable plan? Also, which side of the train would be best for seat reservations to make the most of the journey?

We will be travelling on Pentecost Sunday, May 24.

    Kind regards,

    Artim

    Hi Artim,

The GoldenPass Panoramic train from Zweisimmen to Montreux departs at :04 every hour.  If you wish to leave at a reasonable time, I would choose the 07:42 AM connection from Wengen to Zweisimmen (changing in Lauterbrunnen, Interlaken Ost and Spiez) arriving in Zweisimmen at 09:59 AM. That gives you about 5 mins to switch to the GoldenPass train, which is sufficient as the platforms are adjacent to each other. If you look at the timetable, your train arrives in Zweisimmen on Platform 6. The GoldenPass Panoramic train departs from Platform 5, so you are basically just crossing the same platform.

We recommend sitting on the right side (in the direction of travel) for the best views.

    Hello Artim

Further to Anna’s reply, you can be sure that when you get to Zweisimmen, there will be a LOT of people wanting to make the cross-platform connection to the train for Montreux.  The five minute cross=platform connections at Zweisimmen are ‘SAFE’.  I have made this connection on many occasions.

    Kind regards
    Roger

One more query – if we have Swiss Travel Pass, can we skip buying tickets for the GoldenPass Panoramic and only make seat reservations at CHF 10 per person?

    Kind regards,
    Artim

    Hello again Artim.

No need to ‘buy tickets’ for the ‘Golden Pass Panoramic’.  Your Swiss Travel Pass (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/swiss-travel-pass/) will give you free travel on the the ‘Golden Pass Panoramic’ from Zweisimmen to Montreux.   Just show your STPs to the ticket inspector.  However, as the train is likely to be very busy, I would recommend seat reservations at 10 CHF per person.

    Kind regards
    Roger
