Is Stoos ridge hike possible in late May 2023?

Short summary – read this first

Jessica is planning a hiking trip on May 19th or 20th but wants to confirm if the Stoos ridge hike is accessible due to the chairlift's status. She also considers visiting Mt. Rigi if the hike isn't feasible, looking for the latest updates and expert advice.

Key takeaways:
  • Check the Stoos Muotatal website for the latest information on chairlift operations.
  • If the Klingenstock chairlift is closed, consider hiking the panorama trail from the Fronalpstock chairlift as an alternative.
  • The weather is crucial for lift operations, so keep an eye on local forecasts.

I’ve been checking the webcams and it looks like the snow has melted and the chair lifts are running but I wanted to double check. We would be interested in doing the hike May 19th or May 20th. Wanted to get the expert local opinions if this is possible.

if not we will plan to visit Mt. Rigi instead

    Thanks

    Jessica

    Hi Jessica,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

The Stoos ridge hike starts from the Klingenstock chairlift and currently this is closed for maintenance. There is a big chance the lift may open during the weekend (mid-May) if good weather continues. You can check the latest operating info here: stoos-muotatal.ch/en/open-facilities/

As an alternative, I recommend taking the chairlift up to Fronalpstock and hike the panorama trail at the top. You can find details about this trail here: http://www.stoos.ch/en/stories/panoramatrail

    Regards,

    Anna
