    Hi ,

Please suggest how can we visit Lake Constance and the Rhein Falls in one day starting from Zurich? At what time we should start, which public transport to take and where to visit first? (assuming we’re travelling with a 8 yr kid).

I believe we can only visit Mainau in konstanz if we need to cover Rhein falls also in the same day? Is this correct?

    Thanks for your help

Use the SBB journey planner or the Official timetable journey planner or PDFs to find your timetables.

    timetable-pt.transportdatamanagement.ch/qv/#/EinfacheFahrplanauskunft/Suche?lang=en&timetable=current

    The best route is probably:

Zurich HB: take S9 suburban train (runs every 30 minutes ) to Neuhausen Rheinfall station (journey time 50 minutes). By the way this railway is geopolitically interesting. It runs through a section of German territory with two German stations served by Swiss trains!

    Official PDF here:

    http://www.fahrplanfelder.ch/fileadmin/fap_pdf_fields/2023/760.pdf

Neuhausen Rheinfall – Schaffhausen – Kreuzlingen: Train S1 Thurbo, every 30 minutes journey time 1 hour

Kreuzlingen – Konstanz: any available train, journey 3 minutes (or walk)

Return from Konstanz direct to Zurich by IR75 train every hour, journey time 1 hour 15 minutes

Alternatively to see more of the lake from the Swiss shore: Konstanz – Romanshorn (local train, option to hop off at any lakeside station for 30 or 60 minutes before continuing) then Romanshorn – Zurich by fast train

Switzerland trip planning, the easy way

    Hi alad,

To get to Rhine Falls from Zurich HB, you can take either the train to Neuhausen am Rheinfall or Schloss Laufen am Rheinfall. You can find more details here: http://www.myswissalps.com/rhinefalls/gettingthere

You can easily combine a trip to Lake Constance by continuing your journey to Stein am Rhein via Schaffhausen. From Stein am Rhein you can take a 3-hour boat trip to Konstanz or all the way to Kreuzlingen. A faster way would be to take the train that travels along the lake as referenced by 1960man.

If you wish to visit Mainau Island, the best way is to travel by train to Konstanz. There’s a bus that will take you directly from the train station to Mainau Island in less than 20 mins.

Please use the SBB timetable to check train schedules: http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable

    Regards,

    Anna
