Round trip Lake Geneva boat trip recommendations

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is arriving in Geneva with her daughter, ready to use their Saver Day Passes. They want to take a scenic boat trip on Lake Geneva right after checking into their accommodation. They're looking for recommendations on boat routes with beautiful views and options for food on board, returning to Geneva afterward.

Key takeaways:
  • Consider checking the Lake Geneva boat guide for scenic trip options.
  • You can generally hop on regular boat trips with your Saver Day Pass, but specialty cruises may require advance booking.
  • To see Geneva highlights on foot, you can follow a city walk that takes about 2 hours.
  • If you want to visit the Broken Chair monument, use local transport with your Saver Day Pass to get to 'Nations' stop.

    Hi all,
My daughter and I arrive in Geneva tomorrow afternoon. We both have Saver Day Passes and intend to use a scenic train route recommended on here – thank you!
We’d like to head straight out on a boat trip when we arrive, to maximise use of the Passes, but also because our accommodation is a bit out of town in France, so once we check in, we won’t go back that day.
I’ve read on here that the east side of the lake is most impressive. We arrive around 3.30pm on the train. Can anyone recommend a particular boat trip please, including where to depart from? Duration doesn’t matter. We just need to end up back in Geneva. The views are the most important thing. Ideally options to buy food on board too, but not essential.
    Many thanks

    Hi Craigo,

I think our Lake Geneva boat guide should help you out.  Here’s the link:

In the “Other websites of interest” section, you can also find a link to culinary cruises.

Have fun and enjoy the remainder of the Women’s Euros. It’s been a huge success 🙂

    Kind regards,
    Yolanda

    Thank you.
Yes, loving it so far. Great atmosphere everywhere.
Do you know if we can just turn up and use our passes for a boat ride, or do we need to book in advance?
I think you said before we can then see the main sights of the city on foot? We intend to do that the next morning, including the flower clock, Old Town etc. Is that realistic? Thanks again

    Hi Craigo,

Yes, for general boat trips, you can just hop on and enjoy but if it’s a speciality cruise (one that includes a meal), you would have to book.

If you follow the Geneva city walk described in the link below, you’ll see most of the highlights within 2 hours.

    Have fun.

    Kind regards,
    Yolanda

    Perfect. Thank you.
One last question sorry – can we see the broken chair monument at all doing your recommended walk?

    Hi Craigo,

If you follow this walk, unfortunately no, you won’t.

The Broken Chair is located at the “Place des Nations”.  If you are limited with time, with your Saver Day Pass, you can hop on and use the local transport .  The stop you would need is “Nations”.   Plan your trip with the Swiss timetable (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/public-transport/timetable/).

    Kind regards,
    Yolanda
