Lenzerheide from Zurich and Chur

Short summary – read this first

Charles and Katherine are seniors visiting Switzerland from January 26 to February 3, staying at Revier Mountain Lodge in Lenzerheide for the Junior Worlds Biathlon. They want advice on the best travel options from Zurich to Chur and within Lenzerheide, considering a side trip to Zurich or Chur while cheering for their grandson. They're first-time visitors excited about their trip.

Key takeaways:
  • Consider purchasing point-to-point tickets, as they may be the best option for your travel needs.
  • Look into the Saver Day Pass for potential savings if you plan to make several trips.
  • You might receive a local free pass for buses from your accommodation provider.
  • Use the SBB Mobile app to check timetables and buy tickets conveniently.
  • A side trip to St Moritz via the Albula railway can be a great alternative to visiting Zurich or Chur.

We (2 seniors) are arriving Zurich ZRH 26Jan and visiting Lenzerheide until 03 Feb. Staying at Revier Mountain Lodge visiting frequently Biathlon Arena for Junior Worlds. We are not skiing, rather cheering for our grandson.

What would be the best way to travel rail ZRH to Chur, bus into Lenzerheide, with frequent bus trips within Lenzerheide. Possible a side trip back to Zurich or Chur to see sights. Would a pass be an advantage or point-to-point be the best?

Thanks for your help. First time in Switzerland, looking forward to visiting your country.

Hello Charles & Katherine and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

Depending on your plans you may find point to point tickets are the best. Supersaver fares may be an option but be aware they are tied to a particular train/bus.

You might also look at http://www.myswissalps.com/saverdaypass.

You won’t get any advantage from being a senior (fare-wise).

This may also be of interest – arosalenzerheide.swiss/en/Region/Lenzerheide/Region/Things-to-know/Transportation#transport.

I strongly recommend using the SBB Mobile app (bit.ly/2ICIUHi) for checking timetables, finding fares* and buying tickets on-line if required.

I think point to point would be best – but that does include the Saver day pass – the earlier you buy the cheaper it is. You are highly likely to be given a local free pass for buses by the accomodation provider.

An alternative to going back north to Chur or Zurich would be to take the bus south to link up with the Unesco Heritage Albula railway and maybe visit St Moritz for the day
