What do you think about our travel itinerary? Do you have any recommendations for other places or hidden gems that we should visit along our route, especially around Interlaken, Montreux, and Rossinière? We would love to experience both the famous attractions and some lesser-known local favorites.

Also, which travel pass or ticket would you recommend for our family (two adults and one 17-year-old daughter)? We are looking for the most convenient and cost-effective option for traveling throughout Switzerland.

My daughter is one of Heidi biggest fans, and visiting Heidiland is one of the main reasons we are traveling from Sweden to Switzerland. We will arrive at Zurich Airport on August 3. Since we do not want to miss the beautiful scenery along the way, we are planning to travel to Heidi Village on August 4, stay there for one night, and spend our time exploring the village and experiencing Heidi’s world. I have checked the transportation options in the SBB app and on Google Maps. The only route I found takes us to **Maienfeld, Post**, followed by a 40-minute walk to Heidi Village. Does this mean there is no public transportation between Maienfeld, Post, and Heidi Village? If there are any local buses, shuttle services, taxis, or other transportation options, I would greatly appreciate your advice. I would also be very grateful if you could recommend the best things to see and do in Heidi Village so that we can make the most of our visit. As Heidiland is the first destination on our itinerary in Switzerland, I would like to organize this part of our trip before planning the rest of our journey.

I am planning a train trip from Zurich to Maienfeld (Heidiland) and will be using a Swiss Half Fare Card. If I buy a standard ticket, how long is it valid for? Am I allowed to hop off the train at an intermediate station to explore the area, and then catch a later train on the same day using the same ticket?

Thank you very much for your time and assistance. I look forward to hearing from you.
    Thank you! Bita

    Hi Bita,

That’s a wonderful east-to-west plan! Personally, I would consider fewer hotel changes, and stay in Montreux longer instead of the single nights in Rossinière and Geneva. Both towns are only an hour from Montreux.

Your question about the ticket to Maienfeld was already answered here: https://www.myswissalps.com/community/thread/15-day-pass/#post-2797818

You asked which travel pass or ticket is most convenient, but also said you will be using the Swiss Half Fare Card. If you are still deciding: the most convenient option is the Swiss Travel Pass, as that includes a lot of transportation for free so you can hop on and off without buying tickets each time. A spontaneous extra free trip, e.g. to the viewing point Les Plèiades near Montreux, is easy that way. You don’t need both; please find all details here to choose:

The bus stop you need for Heidiland is called “Maienfeld, Heididorf”. That’s the destination to fill out in the timetable: https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/train/timetable/. The bus stops right at the entrance.
