    Hi MilkTea2025,

As a starting point, if you have health insurance, you may want to check out if they offer coverage to meet your needs.  Also try your credit card too.

    Kind regards,
    Yolanda

It’s always important to have travel insurance for international travel. Take the case of a very healthy friend in his late 40s who traveled to an Asian country with his wife, not sure which country, had an unexpected medical emergency, ended up in the ICU of a private hospital for unexpected emergent procedure and complications, 5 days in ICU with chest tube and had to fork out 180K USD. My wife and I travel international perhaps 2-3x per year and have an annual multi trip insurance through GeoBlue around 600 USD per year. It’s almost entirely medical. Knock on wood so far we have never used it, but, then who knows when? They have an app. As Yolanda says check with your insurance first. My sister has coverage from work.

We use GeoBlue as well when traveling internationally. I always make sure to choose a plan with at least $500,000 in medical evacuation coverage, which would be important but expensive if it’s ever needed. Aside from medical expenses, the insurance provides some travel benefits, such as lost luggage and lodging expenses—just make sure and read the fine print so that you understand what’s covered.

    Hi MilkTea2025,

I agree with Yolanda. Start with your local insurance company and ask if they offer a worldwide coverage.

I recently had a guest visiting from the UK in April. She tripped while enjoying a walk in Wengen and unfortunately had to be transported in an ambulance to the hospital with a fractured ankle. She spent a week in the hospital in Baden (near Zurich). Thankfully she took out a travel insurance and everything was covered including the ambulance, surgery and hospital stay. She was insured with Aviva.

    Regards,
    Anna
