    Hello Everone,

First of all thank you for maintaining this wonderful site.

I need some help regarding short trip to Switzerland before our cruise from Rome. This is our first trip to Switzerland and Italy. We (Family and Friends) are coming from Toronto to Zurich , arrival morning of 27th Aug. We want to spent some time in Switzerland and see the glimpse before reaching Rome (by train) by afternoon of 29th Aug and have few hours to visit Collesium. We have cruise next day 30th Aug.

I know this is not sufficient, but just an idea came to start 2 days early and spend few days in Switzerland and get motivated for longer trip in future.

I am looking for help in planning our limited time in Switzerland. I don’t want to spend time in large cities, while we prefer mountains, lakes, scenic villages and scenin trains. Some ideas are like Lucern or Jungfrau region or Bernina Pass. Looking for ideas on where to go, how to schedule and where to stay on nights of 27 & 28 Aug. Also guidance on which travel pass makes sense.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Jigs,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

Since you are travelling by train to Rome, I would choose a base that provides convenient rail connection to Italy.

My first suggestion is Lucerne (https://www.myswissalps.com/town/lucerne/). It’s roughly 1 hour from Zurich Airport (with direct rail connection) and offers plenty of excursion and day trip opportunities.

My 2nd suggestion is Lugano (https://www.myswissalps.com/town/lugano/) about 2 hours from Zurich. Lugano is close to the Italian border (just 1.5 hour from Milan) with regular rail connection to Italy.

You can find more practical info about travel and tickets from Switzerland to Italy here: https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-guide/italy-switzerland/

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,
    Anna

Thank you Anna for your reply. Lucerne makes sense and provides great options nearby.
