New MySwissAlps website is ready for you
-
Hi everyone,
We launched our new website yesterday. Please bear with us while we are fine-tuning and fixing issues. Everything should work well within a few days. Feel free to e-mail us if you encounter any issues: https://www.myswissalps.com/contact/email/.
The idea of rebuilding our website from scratch came about in 2020. We started the work in late 2021. It felt weird starting such a project during a time when very few people were traveling because of the pandemic. But we wanted to be ready for the future, and we knew a new website was going to take time.
Annika and I are the owners of MySwissAlps, but we couldn’t have done this all by ourselves. We are thankful to have our loyal forum moderators Anna and Yolanda. We have expanded the team with developer Federico and with the translators Josephine, Maya, and Rolf. With such outstanding people, we are now ready for years to come: https://www.myswissalps.com/about/team/.
Also, we got help from people with the expertise we needed to create the website we had in mind. I’d like to thank Andy Round, David Anttony, Dino Lolli, Michal Búci, Mike Eaton, Morgan Cline, Nesho Sabakov, Pieter Bos, Roberta Lanzetti, Zachary Ashmun, and many of our partners for their suggestions and hard work. Without your help we’d not have a new website.
What exactly has changed, you may wonder? The short answer is “everything”. Except for our goal: help you plan your trip to Switzerland. Here’s a list of changes:
New forum
We no longer have separate forums for accommodation, train/transport and miscellaneous topics. All of this now takes place in one forum: https://www.myswissalps.com/community/forum/questions/.
Trip reports are still separate: https://www.myswissalps.com/community/trip-reports/.
Uploading images to your trip reports has been made easier. We also had to do a bit of cleaning up, so we removed images and other attachments of more than 6 years old.
New blog
The blog at https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-blog/ is where we will publish anything that doesn’t necessarily need to be in the main sections of the website. Examples are more detailed information that might be interesting for a small group of people only, or information that is only relevant for a limited time.
Find information quicker
Here’s the new activity finder: https://www.myswissalps.com/activities/. The filters above the list of activities help you narrow down your search, and the map below the list shows where the activities are located. And here’s the new train pass finder: https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/tickets/. You’ll find more lists like these throughout the website.
Finding accommodations and entrance tickets is also improved. It’s faster, much more comprehensive, and all of the offers are updated frequently. Here’s the new hotel finder, for example: https://www.myswissalps.com/accommodation/hotels/. Another random example is our page to find cheese- and chocolate-related activities: https://www.myswissalps.com/activities/culinary/. There’s much more like this all across MySwissAlps.com.
The search engine has been improved: https://www.myswissalps.com/search/. It should get better as it’s “learning” what the website is about.
Pages have a table of contents to quickly jump to the section you’re interested in. The arrow on the right allows you to jump back up.
German pages
All pages are now available in German too: https://www.myswissalps.com/de/. There is a language switch at the bottom of each page.
Dark mode
You can view the website in dark mode, which is easier on the eyes. There is a switch at the bottom of each page.
Extra options for members
You need to be logged on in order to see maps and weather forecasts. On our town pages, for example: https://www.myswissalps.com/planning/places/.
Members also have access to all of the promotions we keep track of. Here on our new deals page, for example: https://www.myswissalps.com/promotions/.
Promotions will also be listed on other pages throughout the site. Like before, we’ll announce the most interesting promotions via our newsletter, push notifications and here in the forum too.
You can create a free account here: https://www.myswissalps.com/create-account/
Logging into your account
If you already have an account on MySwissAlps.com, now’s the time to request a new password and log in: https://www.myswissalps.com/account/lost-password/.
If you don’t have an account yet, you can optionally log in with your Facebook or Google account. That way, you don’t need a separate password. It’s only an extra option, you can still create an account with your e-mail address and password.
Your options if you’re not a member
Unlike before, you can now subscribe to the MySwissAlps newsletter if you do not have an account with us. User accounts and newsletter subscriptions are totally separate now. You can subscribe here: https://www.myswissalps.com/contact/newsletter/.
This applies to the forum update e-mails too. These e-mails are sent daily (you used to be able to choose between 3 times per day to once per week): https://www.myswissalps.com/contact/forum-updates/.
You can subscribe to push notifications to receive Switzerland travel news and a daily forum thread: https://www.myswissalps.com/contact/notifications/.
Your bookmarks
Most page URLs have changed. Any bookmarks you may have saved will still work; you’ll be redirected to the new URL. But it’s best to update your bookmarks as the redirects won’t work forever.
I hope you like what we did
What do you think? Will you be using MySwissAlps.com to prepare for your next trip?
