eyliu99 – no, Swiss Half Fare Card is not valid onboard NightJet to/from Vienna. If we talking about tourist passes only Interrail Global Pass (without restrictions) and STP (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/swiss-travel-pass/) (tinny discount) are valid in this situation.

I was referring to the OBB 50% discount.

Hi Eric,
Are you just booking a seat (i.e. sitting up all night), or a couchette or sleeping compartment?
Usually reservations are never discounted, but the reservation fee is very minimal – about 3 Euros.

Alpenrose555 – NightJet trains don’t use “ticket+reservation” system. On all NJ routes (except route Zurich-Germany) OBB using global prices system – it mean there is imposible to book seat / bed only. Holder of every pass (Interrail, GA, KlimaTicket, FIP coupon, etc.) is egalible to buy ticket (which include reservation) with approciate discount, bur still it is a ticket discount, not reservation. Method you talking about is intended for example for daily RailJets between Switzerland and Austria, and for long distance trains in most European’s countries, except for example Italy or France.

Hi eyliu99,
Yes, ÖBB Nightjet tickets automatically include a seat reservation.
The ÖBB Vorteil card discounts the standard ticket price accordingly when you purchase.
For details on travel to/from Austria, we have a guide with some useful tips and information including purchase options:

Yolanda – you should update lowest tickets price for Vienna-Zurich RailJet route in mentioned guide. Cheapest point-to-point ticket (with seat reservation) cost about CHF 42, not CHF 60 🙂 NightJet cheapest tickets cost CHF 29.

Hi kamil,
Thanks for your comments regarding the difference in ticket pricing between the ÖBB Nightjets travelling between Germany and Switzerland compared with other ÖBB Nightjet routes.
My understanding was based on how it works with the ÖBB Nightjet from Hamburg to Zürich, where you can indeed book a “seat reservation only” if you have a pass to cover the fare and are happy to travel sitting up all night in ordinary seats. I have done this myself, as well as booking an all-inclusive sleeping compartment, which does indeed have a completely different pricing model.

Hi Kamil. The price we mention in our Austria-Switzerland guide is an average fairly cheap rate. We intentionally do not mention the lowest possible cost there :-). Also see the remark “The exact price depends on your route, how early you book, the class, and the type of ticket you choose.”
