Oeschinensee panorama hike in 1,5 hours

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a hike at Oeschinensee and wants to confirm if their plan is feasible. They plan to take a cable car from Kandersteg and complete a 1-1.5 hour hike to enjoy views of the lake, but they need to know if their route is manageable within that timeframe.

Key takeaways:
  • Stick to Trail 2 to reach Aussichtspunkt Heuberg, which offers great views without needing to complete the entire loop.
  • Be cautious on the trails, as they can be steep and uneven; proper hiking experience is recommended.
  • If time allows, consider the rodelbahn for some fun on the way back.
  • Plan your timing carefully to ensure you can catch the shuttle bus back in time.

    Hello everyone,

I have extensively checked all blog posts and forums on Oeschinensee panoramic hike, but still need some help understanding the hike.

I will be taking the round-trip cable car from Kandersteg. I will not be able to do the entire panoramic loop. I can only do a max. of 1-1.5 hour hike and would like to see the popular view from the top where the lake is right in the middle surrounded by mountains all around.

I have cross-checked the attached picture and Google Maps. Here’s what I plan to do based on what I have understood so far. Please let me know if this is feasible.

    1. Trail 7 is not for me. The best top view is here (near Oberbärgli), but will have to miss it.
    2. Trail 2 will lead to Aussichtspunkt Heuberg if I keep hiking up and this is a nice vantage point.
    3. I plan to then hike back the same route and branch off to Läger Viewpoint (somewhere in the middle of the trail that connects trail 2 and trail 3).
    4. Hike down to trail 3 and get closer to the lake.
    5. Finally walk to the shuttle bus stop, take the shuttle to the cable car.
    6. If time permits, do the rodelbahn (toboggan ride).
    7. Take the cable car back to Kandersteg.

Is there anything that I have understood wrong or are there any loopholes in what I plan to do? Is it possible to do this in 1-1.5 hour?

Please suggest. Thank you very much!

    Hello PalBo9,

Going by your plans above, yes, they appear doable.

The hike at Oeschinensee is considered challenging. Just something to be aware of, it’s intended for those with hiking experience. Not trying to put you off but there are some steep parts and uneven terrain and sections are ‘open’ with no rails. Again something to be aware of, in case you are uncomfortable with heights.

The views with favourable weather are stunning!

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda
