Hello and a big thank you for all the invaluable information your website has provided in planning our vacation. My husband and I will be traveling in Switzerland, early to mid October this year. Unfortunately, our timing is such that we will not be able to experience the Glacier Express panoramic train, however we will take regional trains from Zermatt to St Moritz on October 14. Using the SBB app, our route via Andermatt shows this:

    “Stop Oberwald, Bahnhof

The stop Oberwald, Bahnhof is postponed. This is due to construction work. The restriction lasts from 07.04.2026, 05:00 until 01.11.2026, 23:59. The replacement stop is south of the station.”

We’re not sure what this means. Is there  an alternative provided for passengers?

Any insight and help on this would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Jan

    Hi Jan650,

It’s just a minor translation mistake. In German, the word used is ‘verschoben’. In this situation, it means the stop is temporarily moved from the original location due to construction.

    Regards,
    Anna

    Hello

Further to Anna’s reply, I would like to stress that the sentences.: The stop Oberwald, Bahnhof is postponed. This is due to construction work. The restriction lasts from 07.04.2026, 05:00 until 01.11.2026, 23:59. The replacement stop is south of the station.”  relate to the buses which operated between Fiesch and Oberwald.  They do not relate to the trains which run hourly Visp-Brig-Andermatt. That is the service which you will be wanting to use.

    Best wishes
    Roger

Thank you Anna and Roland. I hadn’t noticed that the second and fourth leg of the route shown on my app was on a bus. I’ll try the route with your suggestion  Roland, and hope that gives me a better result.

    Best regards,
    Jan

Hello again. I tried Zermatt to St Moritz via the route Roland described
and it still shows 2 parts of the route on a bus and the postponement message. Is it correct to assume there is construction in the area on that date that cannot be avoided?

    Many thanks,
    Jan

My apologies to Roger. I inadvertently referred to him as Roland. I am so sorry for my mistake.

    Hello again Jan

October 14th Zermatt to St Moritz.

I keyed intothe  sbb.ch electronic timetable a journey on October 14th from Zermatt to St Moritz.   I stipulated that I would be going via Visp, Oberwald, Andermatt, Disentis/Muster and Reichenau-Tamins.  I gave my departure time as 07 15.

From October 12th the sections of railway between Täsch and Visp, and Fiesch and Oberwald are closed for engineering work. Rail replacement buses will be operating. I know from personal experience that SWISS REPLACEMENT BUSES WILL BE VERY WELL ORGANISED.

The electronic timetable told me to go as follows.

    07 28 R40 to Täsch, arrive 07 40.

At Täsch I would look for directions to the rail replacement bus leaving at 07 51 and arriving at Visp at 08 48. (A lot of people will be wanting to make this connection.)

I leave Visp at 09 08 on the R43 train to Fiesch, arriving there at 09 55.

At Fiesch the rail replacement bus is scheduled to depart at 09 57 from in front of the station.  It would wait if the train were late.      The bus should reach Oberwald at 10 39.

At Oberwald station the bus stop has been moved because of local building work.  It is a slightly longer than usual TWO minute walk to the train platform.  Again. I would follow the directions.

The R43 train is scheduled to depart at 10 42, but I am sure it would wait for a late running bus.  This train reaches Andermatt at 11 20.

    11 38 R45 to Disentis/Muster, arrive there 12 45.

Straight across the platform on to the 12 50 RE7 bound for Chur; I will get off at Reichenau-Tamins at 13 55.

Straight across the platform and wait for the 14 08 IR38 (which has started from Chur) arrive St Moritz 15 55.  I will try and get a seat on the right hand side of the train facing the direction of travel.

If I left at 08 28, the pattern of transport services would be the same.  Everything would be one hour later!

    Kind regards

    Roger

    Thank you so much Roger!

I really appreciate you taking the time to lay out what the route will be due to the construction. Your very clear instructions and reassurance that the replacement buses will be well organized is an enormous help and relief. Thank you.

    Warm regards,
    Jan
