We have half fare cards and 2 saver day passes – 1 for a day in Lucerne (thinking of Rigi that day, anything else we should add in?), 1 for the day we travel from Lucerne to Lutry (any recs for that route?). Thank you!

Rigi
It’s a great idea to visit Rigi. I’d recommend a round trip: up by train via Arth-Goldau, down to the other side of the mountain to either Weggis or Vitznau, and back to Lucerne by boat. All of this is free with your Saver Day Passes.Details: https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/rigi/
Theoretically, you could add a trip to Stanserhorn (free with the Saver Day Pass) or Bürgenstock (free if you travel by bus; the funicular is not included). But you should only do this if you like full and pretty high-paced days. Details:
Lutry
Lutry is quite far off from Lucerne for a day trip, but it’s doable if you depart early, don’t mind returning late, and don’t spend hours in Lutry. For a varied and scenic day trip, consider this:- Travel via Interlaken, Gstaad and Montreux on your way to Lutry, enjoying the full GoldenPass train line: https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/goldenpass/. This is a long route though, and not the best option if you want to take your time in and around Lutry.
- On your way back, travel via Fribourg and Bern.
For a shorter variant but still enjoying different routes:
- On your way to Lutry, travel via Olten, Neuchâtel, and Biel/Bienne.
- On your way back, travel via Fribourg and Bern.

Further to Annika’s reply regarding the Lutry trip, the following points should be noted.
The Golden Pass Route is very scenic, but also very slow. It will take over six hours. Changes of train will be needed at least at Interlaken Ost and Montreux, and Vevey, and probably also at Spiez and Zweisimmen..
I would take from Lucerne the IR15 train bound for Geneva. If you get off at Palezieux there is a direct connection to the Ligne des Vignes trains down through the Lavaux vineyards to Vevey.

Thank you Annika and Roger. Great suggestions for my Lucerne dasher day pass! I should’ve been more clear about the second saver day pass as we move from Murren to Lutry. We will be moving on to Lutry from Murren to have a 3 night stay in Lutry. If you have recommendations to make the most of that day, it would be great to consider to make the most of the pass. This does make a huge difference. I would now suggest that you do use the Golden Pass route via Interlaken, Spiez, Zweisimmen and Montreux. My concerns are (1) getting seats on busy trains (2) LUGGAGE when you do need to change trains.

Unfortunately you do not give us the date you are travelling from Lucerne to Lutry. However, there are usually through trains from Interlaken Ost to Montreux at 11 07 and 14 07. These through trains are always VERY busy. So seat reservations are essential.

Alternatively, take the IR15 train from Lucerne to LAUSANNE, then a local RER train to Lutry. Park your luggage at you accommodation and spend the rest of you day exploring the area along the north shore of Lake Geneva. (Your SDPs are valid on the lake boats – even on those which go across to France.)

In my reply 4 I think I got rather confused with your travel plans.
I now think that you are intending to use your second Saver Day Pass to travel from MURREN (not Lucerne) to Lutry.
If that is the case, then note that there is also a through train from Interlaken Ost to Montreux at 09 07. Again, this train is going to be very busy so reservation is essential.
If you are travelling from MURREN, then my final paragraph of reply 4 is clearly irrelevant.

Thank you! We are traveling on September 2nd from Murren to Lutry. In addition to the Golden Pass route recommendation, would it be worthwhile to stop in Interlaken OST to take the boat on Lake Brienz? Considering we are cruising Lake Lucerne, would Lake Brienz/Brienz a good add on or is it more of the same? We only have backpacks and could hopefully store them at the train station. Or is it better to get to Montreux and explore before Lutry?

07 28 train from Műrren to Grűtschalp.
07 43 cable car down to Lauterbrunnen
08 01 train to Interlaken Ost, arrive 08 24.
09 07 boat to Brienz, arrive 10 20.
10 37 train from Brienz to Interlaken Ost arrive 10 54.
11 07 Golden Pass Express Train to Montreux, arrive 14 25.

There are local trains (bound for ‘Grandson’) from Montreux to Lutry at 14 30 and 15 01. They take 27 minutes to get to Lutry..
Perhaps then park your luggage at your accommodation. Then go on to Lausanne or perhaps even Geneva.
Or go exploring the Lavaux Vineyards.

Thank you Roger! I’ve really appreciated your advise to make the most of my saver day pass days.
The saver day pass day we are taking a boat to Vitznau and going up to Rigi in the morning (Friday August 28), could we also go to Stanserhorn like you suggested, but a little later for the candlelight dinner? I’d want to confirm that the pass is accepted for the transport before I make a dinner reservation. Thank you.

Both timetables I have consulted simply shows that on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings in high summer there is a regular evening service up the Stanserhorn. There is no mention of special tickets being needed.
It follows that this evening service can be used by holders of ‘ordinary’ tickets such as Saver Day Passes, Swiss Travel Passes and Lucerne Travel Passes. It also follows that you do not have to pay for the dinner if you simply want to go for a hike or watch the sun setting over Lake Lucerne!

Burgenstock
In her reply one Anna also mentioned this (relatively low) mountain which sticks out into the lake. You might be able to squeeze in Burgenstock between the Rigi and the Stanserhorn. But note carefully that while the Saver Day Pass is valid on the bus from Stansstad, it is not valid on the funicular up from the pier at Kehrsiten.
