St. Gallen: is a 1.5 hour visit worth it?
A traveler plans a two-day stay in Zurich during a summer trip. They will visit Appenzell and the Aescher Guesthouse on the first day, stopping in St. Gallen to see the Abbey Library before returning to Zurich. They ask if St. Gallen is worth the stop and what else to see.
- The Abbey Library in St. Gallen is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, making it worth the visit.
- With a Swiss Travel Pass, entry to the Abbey Library is free, so make sure to have it ready.
- Stroll around St. Gallen's old town for a charming experience if time allows.

Hello there! We plan to base ourselves in Zurich for 2 days as part of our 15 day summer trip. On day 1, we will leave early to go to Appenzell and go up to the Aescher Guesthouse. We will head down around noon and tour Appenzell town. We plan to stop at St Gallen and visit the Abbey Library for 1 1/2 hrs en route to Zurich because we plan to reserve dinner at Niederdorf. Is St Gallen worth it? Or are we spreading ourselves too thin. We will travel by train. Day 2 will be spent touring and shopping in Zurich. What else in St Gallen is worth stopping for? Thank you !
