Best side to sit on train to the Brienzer Rothorn

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Bear2019 is planning a trip on the steam train to the Brienzer Rothorn and wants to know which side to sit on for the best views. They are looking for advice about seating options for enjoying the scenery during the ride.

Key takeaways:
  • The left side offers the best views at the upper end of the line, but both sides have interesting views throughout the journey.
  • If you are able to ride during less crowded times, consider moving between seats for different perspectives.
  • Check out resources online, like videos and maps, to enhance your trip experience.

It doesn’t really matter. At the upper end of the line the views are best from the left hand side, but there are sections where the opposite applies. Doesn’t matter at all if you are also coming back down on the train.

    Hello,

If you are lucky enough to be on an uncrowded run (what time of the year will you be there ?) then you might be able to move back and forth. If you look at the attached map (courtesy of SwissTopo) you will see that the train follows a very twisty route (the thin red line) and so the views are interesting in both directions. The following video: youtu.be/LmltCc15F0U will give you a good idea of the spectacular views that await you. Note that the locomotives are always on the downhill side of the trains, both going up and back down.
