Swiss Friends Day Pass for youths

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Davidr1 is planning a trip around Switzerland with a small group that includes two young adults and a child. He is unsure if the Friends Day Pass for Youth is as beneficial as the Saver Day Pass, especially regarding cost and travel coverage. He's looking for clarity on whether both cards allow for the same travel options throughout Switzerland.

Key takeaways:
  • The Friends Day Pass for Youth is valid only for groups where all members are under 25 years old.
  • Both the Friends Day Pass for Youth and the Saver Day Pass provide extensive travel options on public transport like trains, buses, and boats, but not typically on mountain transportation.
  • Children aged 0-5 travel for free in Switzerland, so there's no need for a ticket for the 5-year-old.

    Hello and greetings,

I planned to buy tickets: Saver Day Pass with advance purchase, for daily travel throughout Switzerland.

I am an elderly person traveling with two young people who are 20 years old and a 5 year old boy.

I noticed that there is a ticket for young people called: Friends Day Pass for Youth which apparently greatly reduces the cost of the two young people traveling with me.

The problem is that I’m not really familiar with all the intricacies of prices in Switzerland and I want to be sure that this card really allows travel throughout Switzerland like the Saver Day Pass card, and am I right that this is the more affordable way for our trip?

    Thank you

    Hi Davidr1,

The Friends Day Pass for Youth enables you to travel throughout Switzerland for an entire day in a group of two, three or four people. However, all passengers must be under the age of 25. You can find further details here: http://www.sbb.ch/en/travelcards-and-tickets/tickets-for-switzerland/day-pass/friends-day-pass-youth.html

For your group, I recommend purchasing Saver Day Pass for 2 adults if this is just a one-day trip. If you are travelling over multiple days, you might want to consider getting one of the railpasses: http://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses. Further details about the Saver Day Pass are available here: http://www.myswissalps.com/saverdaypass

Children 0-5 years travel for free on in Switzerland so there is no need to purchase tickets or railpass for the 5-year old boy in your group.

Let us know if you need more info.

    Regards,

    Anna

What is most important to me is whether the two cards give the same travel options within Switzerland, meaning including trains, buses and boats equally?

    Hi Davidr1,

Yes, the Friends Day Pass for Youth and the Saver Day Pass are valid within the same validity area. Both passes provide free travelling on Swiss public transport including trains, bus, trams and boats – mountain transportation (e.g. cable cars, gondola) is usually not included.

    Regards,

    Anna

    If so, that’s really great.

    Thank you very much Anna
