Swiss Saver Day Pass for child is half the fare?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Ash1412 recently booked a Saver Day Pass for their 8-year-old and was confused about fare options. They were concerned whether the child ticket required a Swiss Half Fare Card or if it was valid as booked. To clarify, the Saver Day Pass for children is indeed valid without a Half Fare Card.

Key takeaways:
  • A Saver Day Pass for children aged 6-16 costs CHF 19.
  • The Swiss Half Fare Card only applies to adult tickets for the Saver Day Pass.
  • The confusion arises between the Saver Day Pass and the Day Pass for children, which is a separate option at a fixed fare.
  • It's best to contact the service provider directly if you encounter any issues with bookings.

    Hi,

I just booked SaverDay Pass with Happy Rail for a kid age 8 year along with the family.

Adults I booked full fare (as I dont have half fare card). while In the booking for child it does not show any option to select 1/2 fare.

After booking in child ticket it show “Reduce 1/2 Fare”. I am afraid to travel without any 1/2 fare travel for my kid.

It seems to be bug in the happy rail website OR Saver Day pass is valid without 1/2 fare pass in case of Child?

    Kindly help

    -Regards.

    Hi Ash1412,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

A Saver Day Pass for children cost CHF19 so this is correct.

Children aged 6-15 always travel half-price even without a railpass.

    Regards,

    Anna

    Thank you Anna,

If I checked on http://www.sbb.ch/. It cost CHF 49.00 for Children 6-16. Please see attached screen image.

Am I missing any info here?

    Hello Ash1412,

Now that is strange. You best take that up with SBB directly – perhaps there is a glitch in the system. A Saver Day Pass for a child, aged 6-16 is CHF19.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda

    Hi Yolanda, all

yes. I already booked the Saver Day pass for a child and Happy Rail customer email say “In order to travel with these passes on reduced fare, you need a half fare pass”

I saw the swissalp forum supports for happyrail.

thought to book via happy rail and seems to be messed up and frustrating with happy rail booking system.

Can anyone in this forum support on this topic?

    Hello again Ash1412,

Sorry for the frustration you are currently experiencing.

Going forward, just so I am clear and we are on the same page.

You have purchased a Saver Day Pass for a child aged between 6-16 years old? If this is correct, then the price paid should be CHF19.

A Saver Day Pass for yourself (adult), the price can vary as there are different price bands depending on the day you buy it for. You will pay the full fare for the Saver Day Pass unless you have a Swiss Half Fare Card and the price will be then discounted.

Does this clarify? Let me know if I can help further.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda

    Hello Yolanda,

    Many thanks for clearification.

Mean time, I have also found similar issue faced by another person

    Ref. Link : sbbcffffs-community.sbb.ch/t5/SBB-Mobile-SBB-Preview-EasyRide/SAVER-DAY-PASS-AND-DAY-PASS-CHILDREN/m-p/50886/highlight/true#M1588

I think CHF 19 is correct price for a child aged between 6-16 years .

    Thank you once again.

    Hello again Ash1412,

Yes, you have the correct ticket for your 8 year-old. HappyRail offered you the best option 🙂

I think what has happened, there’s been a slight confusion with the names of the passes.

Essentially, we have the Saver Day Pass, https://www.myswissalps.com/saverdaypass/price and the Day Pass, https://www.myswissalps.com/onedaytravelpass/price.

The Day Pass has fixed fares, whereas the Saver Day Pass can vary or simply not be available too.

There’s a discounted child version of the Day Pass and that’s the one you were offered by Happy Rail (CHF 19). This is not the Saver Day Pass for children, but the Day Pass for children. In nearly all cases, this CHF 19 flat rate is cheaper than a 50% reduced children’s Saver Day Pass.

The mention of the Swiss Half Fare Card that you saw on HappyRail only applies if you wanted to purchase a discounted Saver Day Pass for adults. As mentioned earlier, you won’t have one, so the full fare price is what applies for you and what you purchased.

Thanks, hopefully all is clear now.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda
