Swiss Travel Pass customer number for SBB app?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler recently bought two Swiss Travel Passes and family cards for their trip and is having difficulty linking them in the SBB app due to a missing customer number. They found similar issues online and are unsure if it’s essential to connect the passes in the app.

Key takeaways:
  • It's not necessary to link your Swiss Travel Pass to an SBB account; just show the pass when required on free routes.
  • Keep a printed copy of your Swiss Travel Pass with you in case your phone dies or you lose the digital version.
  • If you want to display your Swiss Travel Pass in the SBB app, ensure you purchase it directly from SBB and create a user account prior to buying.

I recently purchased 2 swiss travel passes, and two family cards for our trip. I am trying to link this in the SBB app but it is asking for a customer number which I do not see on the e-ticket

Am I missing something? A little googling shows others with this problem but I have seen to resolution.

Maybe it is not important to link them?

The link you are trying to use at the SSB app is for Swiss nationals. Not intended for you. It’s best to print out your STP (make a backup copy as well in case you lose the first copy, something that happened to me once). Also you wouldn’t want to rely on a digital copy if your cell phone runs out of power.

    Hi Rhendric!

pvonk is right: adding passes to an account in the SBB app or website is mainly meant for Swiss residents. Your Swiss Travel Pass doesn’t have the required code. You don’t need an SBB account at all, nor is it necessary to link your pass to such an account. Just show your Swiss Travel Pass when asked for on all free routes. And if you need additional discounted (mountain) tickets, you can buy them wherever you want without an account. You’ll find details below:

It is possible to display Swiss Travel Passes in the app, provided the following:

You must buy it from SBB (it does not work from other providers).

You must create a user account on SBB and be logged in while purchasing the tickets.

Download the SBB app and log in using the same user name / password as for SBB.

-> Passes will now be available in the app in section ‘Tickets’.

It is not possible to add tickets to the app by scanning them, however.

Hi Trainliner! I’m not sure if anyone has welcomed you at our forum yet. If not: welcome and thanks for your input :-)!

Indeed, that’s the procedure we refer to at http://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/swisspass. We usually don’t recommend buying from travel passes from the domestic SBB website though. The official SBB tourist webshop (http://www.switzerlandtravelcentre.com) is better geared to travelers from abroad and better fit for foreign transactions (https://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/wheretobuy).
